How does the cohort concept work?
Students are admitted in the fall of each year into a cohort. Students take the first 18 hours together — six hours in the fall, six hours in the Spring, and six in a 10-week summer session. Concentration courses are taken as a cohort. Electives and methods courses are not taken as a cohort.

You must attend during the first semester of the program. All other summer semester attendance is optional.
-
What if I miss a semester due to an emergency or other complication?
If a student expects not to be able to enroll for one or more semesters due to a leave of absence, the student should submit a request to the Graduate College. The request must be officially made by the program director. The student should forward a brief rationale for the requirement, the period of leave requested to the program director. If the student is in dissertation stage, then also include the dissertation chair. Granting of leave does not automatically extend students deadlines (for meeting candidacy or graduation).
